Increase Your Website Conversions Using the Right Colors

Color psychology studies how color affects the human behavior. Did you know that color plays a big role in marketing and engaging your customers?

Turn Visitors into Customers Through the Psychology of Color

Color and persuasion are closely related to each other. Color can generate all kinds of reactions and emotions, and if you know how to use it correctly, it can have a positive impact on your advertising efforts.

Why Are Colors Important in Branding?

There are key facts of color theory that are indisputable. In a peer reviewed journal article, Satyendra Singh determined that it takes a mere 90 seconds for a customer to form an opinion about a product. And, 62-90% of that interaction is determined by the color of the product alone.

One study found that 90% of quick judgments related to products were associated with color alone. This tells us that how people (or the majority of them) perceive color directly impacts how they perceive a product that they associate that color with. A brand’s personality is related to certain aspects or values, like sincerity, sophistication, or ruggedness, and each of those corresponds to certain attributes. For example, sophistication would be associated with good presentation and being glamorous, romantic, and charming. If you’re trying to sell something that conveys that message, you need to be aware of which colors suit that description from a perception standpoint.

The Right Way to Use Color

Color is a powerful thing, but using it incorrectly can definitely backfire. When you’re creating a website, you can’t just use color wherever, whenever. Defining a color scheme is crucial to your website’s success. We’re talking about assigning the colors you’ll use for headlines, hero graphics, backgrounds, borders, popups, and buttons. The colors you decide to use should be directly related to the type of audience you’re targeting and the product you want to sell. If you’re selling children’s products, a black and white color scheme is possibly not the best way to go, the same way a rainbow color scheme won’t be very effective in attracting men to a hunting website. The number one thing on your mind before you start painting your site with different colors is to understand how color affects your target audience.

In a survey on color and gender, 35% of women said blue was their favorite color, followed by purple (23%) and green (14%). 33% of women confessed that orange was their least favorite color, followed by brown (33%) and gray (17%).

The Psychology of Color created the color emotion guide in an attempt to explain how we can kindle emotions and convey messages without words, just by using certain colors.
