Breast cancer numbers in the U.S. are scary and if you have a history of breast cancer in your family, the likelihood of you developing breast cancer increases significantly. Still, 85% of women who develop breast cancer have no family history of the disease. Breast cancer is one of the leading killers among women across the globe. Many are still losing the battle, but fortunately many more fight and survive thanks to new treatment advances, early detection through screening and increased awareness.
For patients and their families, the battle against breast cancer is much more than a pink month on the calendar. We know that in the flesh. So we do what we do best as we join the movement to raise awareness: we write about it! Be inspired as we share an artists’ legacy in helping breast cancer survivors and previvors. How? Nipples!
GENIUS! Three-Dimensional Nipple Tattoos for Cancer Survivors
Vinnie Myers is the king of 3D nipple tattoos. That’s right. Vinnie is a true artist -former army doctor – who has found an unlikely calling: creating realistic 3D nipple tattoos for breast cancer survivors, or women who have gotten preventative mastectomies, previvors. Since he started his endeavor, he has now trained a team in his “methodology to help Breast Cancer survivors complete this final step in reconstruction.”
As advanced as doctors and medical professionals have gotten at reconstructing breasts to feel and look natural, there was still one area lacking: the nipple. Now, tattoo art takes a huge step ahead for cancer survivors and patients with a total mastectomy.
“Our hope is to help women to reach some sort of closure to the arduous journey they have undertaken.” The Vinnie Myers Team

Having the look and feel of a proper breast, after the emotional and psychological impacts of a mastectomy, is a big step in the recovery process for women to feel whole again. Little Vinnie’s Tattoos look so real, that you may have wondered if the images were just scanned. Why would we publish a blog with an image of a nipple, right?
We are impressed by people who dedicate their career to helping. Had you ever thought of a tattoo as something that can help survivors deal with such a life-altering condition as is breast cancer?
This must be incredibly rewarding and we commend people like Vinnie Myers for their work!
Sometimes, it really is the smallest details in life
that will make all the difference in the world.

The numbers are staggeringly high, but they are actually getting better, believe it or not.
Preventative Measures for Breast Cancer
Prevention and early detection are key factors in the fight against cancer. If you have a high risk of developing breast cancer, there are some things that you can do to prevent the onset from ever taking place. It is becoming increasingly more popular for women to undergo simple or total mastectomy, hoping to significantly reduce their chances of developing life-threatening breast cancer. The simple or total prophylactic will remove the nipple, areola, and all of the breast tissue. Actress and humanitarian, Angelina Jolie, is one of the many public figures who has spoken out about their personal fight to prevent breast cancer, despite her genetic history working against her. Just last year she talked about having a preventative double mastectomy and is now using her platform and her voice to help other women who are at risk feel strong, powerful and brave enough, to take on this serious preventative step to fight breast cancer. It really takes brave women to make such a decision and it has heavy psychological and physical side effects. So it is with all cancer battles. We care. We share. We support awareness and thank people around the globe whose lives and careers are dedicated to finding the cure.
