Most Common Mistakes When Designing a Webpage

Home office

Your website is an integral part of your business and marketing strategy, but it’s also one of the first places your customers will look when they want to learn more about you and your services or products. If you’re planning on launching a new website or redesigning an existing one, it’s essential that you don’t make any of these most common mistakes when designing your site. Your website should be clean, attractive, easily navigable, and completely responsive — after all, that’s what your customers are looking for when they visit.

Mistakes and How to Avoid Them

When designing a webpage, you want to keep it simple and easy to navigate. One way is by including minimal text on the page and making sure there is sufficient spacing between different elements on the page. Avoid having too many bold or bright colors as these can distract from your content and make it difficult for viewers to focus on what’s important. Lastly, keep design patterns consistent so that visitors know how to move around your site easily.

When designing a webpage you want to keep it simple and easy to navigate

The webpage you design should work for the user’s interaction with it. There are four aspects to this: usability, the navigation, aesthetic appeal, and function. When designing your website, try to keep in mind all four aspects of web design when deciding what to put on your site. Don’t just go off what is trendy or aesthetically pleasing because if the end-user can’t use your website, it won’t matter how good it looks. Here are some web design tips to help avoid these mistakes while designing your site:

  • Don’t confuse an image map with a logo – make sure that people know where they’re at on the page.
  • Don’t overuse graphics – don’t let them take up more than about one-third of the page space.
  • When coding text, provide formatting such as italics, boldface and underline – without these tools, many users will not be able to access information properly.
  • Use clear instructions so people can easily find their way around your website; include what you want people to do as well as where they will be taken if they click certain links (and avoid words like click here).
